これは想像だが、広告がなかったところに広告が入ってくる、という変化に対して、事業者は「ネットには広告モデルが溢れているし、自然と理解してもらえるのではないか」と思っていたのではないか。そして、広告配信によりサービス全体のコスト構造が改善されれば、むしろ消費者にとって便益となるのではないか、とも思っていたのかもしれない。

　しかし消費者は広告の有無に対して敏感である。ビジネスモデルという難儀な概念を持ち出すまでもなく、NHKと民放、単行本と雑誌のように、広告の有無によって情報の見え方だけではなく内容さえも変わることを、体験的に理解しているのである。ましてスマートフォンのアプリは、見方によっては消費者にとって「自分の庭」である。今回反発する向きからすれば、そこに勝手に看板を立てるな、という気分なのかもしれない。
